Inspiring the Next Generation: International Women’s Day at Parkes Que Club 2026

The Hey Sis Project recently had the privilege of being part of the 2026 International Women’s Day Luncheon hosted by Parkes Que Club, a powerful community event celebrating the achievements, resilience, and leadership of women across the region.

Held on Sunday, 8 March 2026, at the Parkes Services Club, the luncheon brought together women from all walks of life to reflect on progress, share stories, and continue the collective work towards gender equality.

Asha Munodawafa as Guest Speaker

Founder of The Hey Sis Project, Asha Munodawafa, was honoured to be invited as a guest speaker at this year’s event, alongside other inspiring women from the community.

As highlighted by the organisers, Asha was recognised not only for her leadership through The Hey Sis Project, but also for being named Parkes Junior Citizen of the Year at the 2026 Australia Day Awards – a testament to her ongoing contribution to the community.

💬 Sharing a Personal Journey

During her address, Asha shared her personal story – one that resonated deeply with many in the room.

She spoke about growing up as a quiet and reserved young person, navigating challenges such as self-doubt and experiences of bullying, and how these early life moments shaped her understanding of confidence, belonging, and resilience.

Her journey highlighted an important message: leadership does not always begin with confidence – it is often built through experience, support, and opportunity.

Through her involvement in tennis, mentorship, and leadership programs, Asha found environments that encouraged her to step forward, use her voice, and grow into leadership roles she once never imagined for herself.

The Birth of The Hey Sis Project

Asha also spoke about the inspiration behind The Hey Sis Project – a platform created to provide young women with the same sense of support, encouragement, and opportunity that helped shape her own journey.

The initiative focuses on:

  • Building confidence through sport and leadership
  • Creating safe, inclusive spaces for young women
  • Encouraging connection, mentorship, and personal growth

Her story reinforced the idea that when young women are given the right environment and support, they can thrive in ways that extend far beyond the court.

A Community Built on Shared Values

The International Women’s Day Luncheon itself reflected the broader themes of the day – community, connection, and collective empowerment.

According to event organisers and community coverage, the luncheon featured inspiring guest speakers who shared stories of leadership, resilience, and achievement, contributing to a meaningful and uplifting atmosphere.

The event also aligned with International Women’s Day 2026 themes such as “Balance the Scales” and “Give to Gain,” emphasising the importance of collaboration, equality, and action in driving change.

A Moment of Representation and Impact

Asha’s participation as a guest speaker represents more than a speaking opportunity – it reflects the growing visibility of grassroots initiatives like The Hey Sis Project within broader community conversations.

Her story serves as a reminder that leadership can emerge from lived experience, and that sharing those experiences can inspire others to step forward with confidence, purpose, and belief in themselves.
